The Residential Project

Those who are working for their Gold award have an opportunity to undertake a Residential project. This requires you to spend five days away from home, staying in a residential setting with a group of others, the majority of whom are not your normal companions.

The project must be something worthwhile which will give you some new skills or personal development. Examples are:

An ATC or MoD sponsored training course
A civilian run course on a special skill or development area
An adventure training week
A Service based project
An overseas camp or visit
A voyage on a tall ship
A battlefield tour
A work experience week (unpaid)
The International Air Cadet Exchange
An environment improvement camp

You can’t count:

Expeditions
Home stays
Activities for which you get paid
Holidays

What about Annual Camp?   It could count, but remember you must be with other people, most of whom you don’t know.  If you just go to camp with your own Squadron that would not count.  However, if you went with different Squadrons who you don’t normally come into contact with, that may be OK.

Whatever you choose to do, make sure the people running the event know that you are counting it for your Award, and be sure to take your Record Book so it can be written up. It’s not allowed to be retrospective, as the staff need to assess your performance on the course against the Award conditions.
