The Skills Section

This section requires you to take up some kind of skill, hobby or interest.  It may be something you are already doing, or you may want to try something new.  It might be something you do with a group, or on your own.  Whatever it might be you will have to commit some time to it, shown below.  The timescales are based on an average of an hour a week of involvement.

Bronze – A choice of three or six months
Silver – A choice of three or six months.  For direct entrants who decide on six months, another six months may be added
Gold – A choice of six or twelve months.  For direct entrants who decide on twelve months, another six months may be added.

Once you have selected a Skill from the 280 or so on offer, you will need to find someone with knowledge of the activity to act as a mentor to help you through it.   You will be asked to set yourself some goals to achieve while you are participating. How well you do will be reviewed with your mentor, who will also sign up your book at the end.

There are some Skills that will fit in well with what you are doing in the Corps.  Examples are:

Marksmanship
Aeronautics
Aircraft Recognition
Aeromodelling (Model Construction)
Military History
Signalling
Ceremonial Drill
Military Music

There are programmes for all these activities on the Award web site as well as all the other choices. Click on the picture, this will give you some ideas to help you set your goals.
