BURY CADETS TAKE TOP SQUADRON AWARD

Cadets from 1036 (Bury) Squadron recently celebrated winning the ‘Lancaster Trophy’, naming them as the best squadron in East Lancashire Wing. The event, which took place at the Castle Armoury TA Centre, Bury, is the culmination of training and sporting activities throughout the year.

The day’s competition involved all 22 squadrons in East Lancashire Wing Air Training Corps and contained elements of Aircraft Recognition, Drill Sequence, Public Relations, Simulated First-Aid, and Target Shooting training skills.

Bury Squadron’s Marching Band entertained the cadets and staff at the end of the event as they waited for the day’s results. The band’s display squad, which earned praise at the 2007 Manchester Military Tattoo, won the North Region Marching Band Competition at RAF Linton-on-Ouse in 2007.

Cadet Corporal Stuart Marshal felt that winning the trophy was a fantastic achievement for 1036 squadron. He said: “It has been the superb effort by everyone involved with the squadron that has allowed us to pick up this trophy today.”
Also attending the event were BTEC qualification advisors who held a BTEC ‘surgery’ to assist cadets in furthering their ongoing BTEC activities.
