BLACKPOOL RACES FOR LIFEFor the third year running 177 (Blackpool Airport) Squadron Air Training Corps has raced to the assistance of Cancer Research UK. 38 cadets and 4 staff members recently helped Marshall the Race for Life event in Blackpool over the course of two evenings. The assistance provided by the squadron continues North Region’s support to the charity, which recently saw over £1000 raised by the Lee’s Lunchbox appeal. Over the two day period which saw cadets come out in force to help out at the event, a number of tasks were carried out. Participants were met at the start of the route and applauded as everyone passed to commence their run. Cpl Claudia Kearns had the task of starting the race and activating the stop watch and Sgt Rachel Alliston and Cdt Sarah Singleton were tasked as the rear markers and last competitor’s home to finish the race. At the end of the first day’s event, a quick “Flod Plod" and clear away meant that the route was ready for a second day or running. Pilot Officer John Sutcliffe added: "The Race for Life event came right on the back of Veteran’s week in the town, so it really has been a busy time for the cadets. We keep asking and without fail, our cadets keep on volunteering. This goes to show the commitment that our cadets have to the community and town to which they belong." |
