FORMER YEADON CADET PASSES OUT

A former 2168 (Yeadon) Squadron Cadet recently passed out of RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire. Jonathan ‘Jofty’ Robinson gave up his hotel manager’s post to fulfil his dream of joining the RAF.

A cadet from the age of 13, Jonathan soon showed his potential as a future non-commissioned officer and rose through the ranks of the Air Cadet Organisation to eventually become a Cadet Flight Sergeant. He was within one of the first groups of cadets at the squadron to pass the BTEC First Diploma in Aviation Studies.

Jonathan took part in a large number of cadet activities and one of his proudest moments was meeting HRH Prince Philip, when he received his Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award in London .

After serving his time on 2168 squadron Jonathan decided that he would put something back in to the corps and he became a Civilian Instructor, taking over the role of supplies and health and safety.

Dr. Peter Isherwood, the squadron’s Media Communications Officer said: “I remember the day Jonathan arrived at the squadron. He not only showed potential but it was obvious that he had a great sense of humour. With Jonathan about, you had to be very careful what you said. Any funny or slightly inappropriate comments were likely to become part of one of Jonathan’s ‘Paper Plate’ awards at the Christmas Party. I wish Jonathan well in the future; he will make a fantastic airman.”

After a period of leave Jonathan will continue his training at the Defence College of Policing and Guarding, at Southwick Park, near Portsmouth, before being attached to the RAF Police.
