BASSINGBOURN CADETS RAISING MONEY FOR CHARITY

Cadets from 2484 (Bassingbourn) Squadron recently held a quiz evening in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance. The evening, which was well attended by the public and friends of the Squadron managed to raise a grand total of £150.

Alison Horsley of the South Cambs/West Suffolk Fundraising Office of the East Anglian Air Ambulance was presented the cheque by Cadet Tom Pigott and other Cadets of 2484 Squadron ATC. She said: “It has been a wonderful effort by everybody involved.”

The helicopter reaches patients quickly, delivering high-level clinical care in the field. It can then transport them to hospital within minutes, making it an extra life-saving resource in the East Anglian region.

The Air Ambulance Service currently run two BK117 Helicopters with 76.8% of all money raised by the charity spent on operations and medical equipment. It costs £2.4m just to keep two helicopters flying and with the added cost of suits, helmets, helipads, fundraising and admin, the figure rises to £3m.

The Cadets are also hoping to visit the helicopter at Norwich Airport along with a tour of the Airport and Air Traffic Control Tower in the near future .
