HARD WORK PAYS OFF FOR CADETS

A group of 9 cadets from 51 (Orton) Sqn ATC recently became some of the first cadets within Beds & Cambs Wing ATC to be presented with their BTEC Certificate in Aviation Studies.

The certificate, a vocational qualification equivalent to 2 GCSEs Grade A-C, is in recognition of their exam achievements in various cadet and aeronautic subjects taken whilst in the Air Training Corps. Of the group, all but 2 cadets have also either passed, or working towards, their BTEC First Diploma in Public Services, another vocational qualification available to cadets and the equivalent to 4 GCSEs Grade A-C.

Flt Lt Rob Bradshaw RAF VR (T), Beds & Cambs Wing BTEC Officer and former Officer Commanding of 51 (Orton) Sqn ATC, who presented the certificates felt that it was great to see cadets gaining qualifications. He said: “They have put in a lot of hard work during their cadet career to reach this level of training and experience and are worthy recipients. It's good to see 51 (Orton) Sqn continuing to be at the forefront of BTEC development across the Wing.”

Since cadets have been able to undertake the BTEC First Diploma in Public Services, the squadron has gained 15 full and 16 partial passes; in addition to the cadets, staff have also gained qualifications at NVQ 3 or higher in ATC related subjects.

BTEC in Aviation Studies and Public Services are both available to cadets when they reach their 16th birthday. They recognise individual achievement across the broad Air Training Corps syllabus and now form a key part of a long list of qualifications and certificates available through a cadet's career, which are increasingly recognised by prospective employers.
