CADETS ARE 'JEWEL' IN CROWN

AVM Garwood – who is the Air Officer Commanding Air Cadets – was on hand to present awards to individuals who had passed their Initial Officer training course, which took place at RAF Cranwell.

After presenting certificates to the 18 delighted officers, AVM Garwood said: “The Air Cadet Organization is of tremendous value to the Royal Air Force and a key presence within the wider community. There are many talented youngsters within this organization and we must do our up most to make sure they are well looked after. They really are the jewel in the crown.”

During the short ceremony an award was also presented to the officer with the best overall marks and greatest potential. On this occasion the recipient was Pilot Officer Rachael Reece of 273 (Wallasey) Sqn. Looking back on the week PO Reece said: “I’m very proud of what I have achieved in such a short space of time. It’s been a brilliant experience, which is made all the more memorable by the events of today.”

Upon receiving their certificates, AVM Garwood was quick to remind the newly commissioned officer’s of how crucial their role is. He said: “You truly are an important part of the light blue footprint and have a vital role to play in helping develop the youth within this fantastic organization. The air cadet experience must be fun, fun, fun.”
