CADETS CLAIM 20th SUCCESSIVE “PUNCH TROPHY”

Two groups of cadets from both 1344 (Cardiff) Squadron and 2452 (Shawlands) Squadron recently reigned victorious at the Inter Services Smallbore Championships.

The team, which consisted of four cadets from each squadron, won the ‘Punch Trophy’, in the event which took place at the Lord Robert’s Centre, Bisley in Surrey. It was the 20th time in succession that cadets from the Air Training Corps have won the trophy, fending off the challenge of both the Army Cadet Force and the Sea Cadet Corps.

With an overall score of 1537, the Air Cadet team produced a record score, with one of their best shoot’s in recent memory. On hand to give out prizes at the event was Group Captain Malcolm Evans, Chief of Staff at Headquarters Air Cadets. He said: “The effort by all of the teams was superb. For any team to win such a competitive event for the 20 th time in succession is an outstanding achievement”.

The Corps final standings for the event were:

1st      Air Training Corps        1537
2nd     Army Cadet Force        1474
3rd      Sea Cadet Corps         1446
