CADETS DEMONSTRATE SKILLS AT CATTERICK CAMP

Over 300 cadets and 80 volunteer staff from Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Wing recently attended the annual green camp at Wathgill, on the Catterick Training Estate.

Spanning over the course of a week, cadets spent a large proportion of their time preparing for a 36 hour exercise where they get to put into practice everything they have been taught. A comprehensive programme allowed two days worth of training for the exercise, which included all major aspects of the ACP16.

A group of cadets put their first aid skills into action
in a mock exercise.

Operating in twelve flights, 100 cadets were involved in the exercise at a time with the other flights either preparing themselves or taking part in separate activities, such as shooting, rock climbing, abseiling and orienteering. This year’s training carried with it a humanitarian theme and cadets found themselves involved in First Aid scenarios. They were also tasked with building a shower from miscellaneous pieces of equipment provided to aid a ‘local village’.

Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Gordon Moulds attended the camp for the second year running, taking time to watch the many activities that were taking place. Also present was AOC 22 Group, Air Vice Marshal Richard Garwood, who took the opportunity to join the cadets in rock climbing and shooting.

aid exercise.

Cadet Alex Jarvis-Pearson, 13, who was attending his very first camp with the Air Training Corps felt that it had been a great experience. He said: “Overall I think the camp was brilliant and I would definitely like to go again next year! I would also recommend any people my age to join the ATC as it’s a great experience.”
