‘BUILD ON YOUR SUCCESS’ SAYS COMMANDANT

Build on the success of the last year and spread good practice – that is the key message from Commandant Air Cadets.

Speaking at his last Air Training Corps Convention before leaving for a new posting in The Falklands, Air Commodore Gordon Moulds also thanked volunteers and permanent staff for their hard work and commitment.

He said: “The future is bright with what is in place and we currently have more volunteers than we have had before. I am over the moon with the work that has been done. Last year we looked at the quote ‘The best way to predict the future is to create it’. Since then we have had tremendous success in numerous areas and the focus now is to keep up the momentum and continue to build.”

Air Commodore Moulds was speaking at his
last ATC Convention.

This year’s event was the Air Training Corps’ 49 th Annual Convention, which again took place at RAF Cranwell, Lincolnshire . It was attended by senior members of the ATC, including Regional Commandants, Heads of Branch from Headquarters Air Cadets and Wing Commanders from all 36 Wings. Commandant Air Cadets said that a year ago the ATC was an organization in need of change. Since then a number of changes had been implemented. They included:

  • A comprehensive syllabus review.
  • The opening of the new Regional Activity Centres, with an overall total of seven expected to be in place by September 2008.
  • A closer relationship with the RAF’s Inspectorate of Recruitment. The development of BADER with 70% of Wings and 40% of Squadrons now online.
  • Cadet CV introduced from April 2008.
  • The introduction of the Green Activity ACP 16.
  • Appointment of an SO1 Co-ord post to produce a 10 year Strategic Plan.
  • Additional funding secured.

Air Commodore Moulds concluded: “Everything that was covered last year has been delivered. We must now continually ensure that cadets gain valuable experience in the Air Cadets. It is all about making sure that each cadet has a strong CV, BTEC, Duke of Edinburgh Award and is able to take part in as many exciting activities as possible.”
