NEW ARRIVAL IN THE TROPHY CABINET

The Air Cadet Organization (ACO) was recently presented with a new trophy to commemorate Sir Arthur Marshall OBE DL who died last year. Based on the design of a silver replica Gypsy Moth aircraft, The Marshall Trophy will be awarded to the organization's most improved Squadron.

Playing an important role in the development of flight training during the 1930’s, Sir Arthur was made a Master Instructor by the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators in 1931. He went on to form 104 (City of Cambridge) Sqn of the ATC, remaining Chairman of the Squadron until 1976. Acting as the driving force behind the development of Marshall Aerospace until his retirement in 1989, Sir Arthur died aged 104 on 16 th March 2007 .

On hand to receive the trophy for the ACO was Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Gordon Moulds. He said: “This excellent trophy will be awarded annually to the Squadron that has displayed continuous improvement. What better example of improvement than Sir Arthur Marshall himself, who went on to build one of the most highly regarded companies in the aviation industry.”

The Marshall Trophy joins the ACO’s impressive list of trophies that can be won by both individual cadets and Squadrons.
