ROYAL APPOINTMENT FOR ‘AWESOME’ CADETS

Cadets from East Cheshire & South Manchester wing recently got to demonstrate their leadership, communication and First Aid skills in front of Her Majesty the Queen.

The cadets, from 174 (Manchester), 184 (Manchester South) and 391 (Wilmslow) squadrons took part in the reenactment of a ‘downed pilot’ scenario, which formed part of a series of presentations by tri-services at the Urbis Exhibition centre in the city.

Working hard to ensure that the display was realistic, Cdt Saqib Shabbir dressed in full flying kit to act out his part as the pilot, whilst the scenario was narrated by Cadet Flight Sergeant Becky Lavelle. After watchin presentations by the other services Her Majesty took the time to speak to those involved about their work.

Flight Lieutenant Will Scott, Officer Commanding 184 Squadron felt that the opportunity to perform at the event was one that couldn’t be missed. He said: “We were extremely proud of the presentation given by our cadets and the manner in which it was delivered. This was an opportunity that doesn’t even occur once in a lifetime for many people.”

The presentation given by the cadets involved seemed to be warmly received by both Her Majesty and the watching audience. Squadron Leader Ian Revell, Wing Staff Officer said: “The cadets were simply awesome and a real credit to their Wing and the Air Cadet Organization as a whole. Her Majesty seemed to enjoy the demonstration and I’m sure it’s a day that the cadets will remember for a long time.”
